The Koehn Family Endowment fund was established to be able to provide charitable giving to organizations of their choice, annually.
When Kevin and Lynda Koehn lost a friend at a very young age, they were struck not only by the tragedy of his passing, but by the generosity that followed. In his honor, the friend's wife created a charitable fund and empowered their children to distribute gifts to the causes they cared about most.
For the Koehn's, that idea resonated deeply - but they wondered why such meaningful giving should wait until after someone is gone. Instead, they decided to begin their legacy now.
They established an endowment fund during their lifetime, ensuring future charitable gifts for generations to come. At the same time, they began making annual contributions that their own children could direct. Kevin says, "It has been interesting to watch the kids develop their own approaches to charitable giving. We can also give them some subtle guidance, since we are still alive to give it"
The Koehn's set up their first fund in Chippewa County and have since created additional legacy funds in communities close to their hearts. Both Kevin and Lynda were born in the region and met while attending UW-Eau Claire. Their five children who now live across three U.S. states and in Australia, They all carry that sense of community with them.
Today, the Koehn family's funds continue to grow. Through all the foundations, their children are able to allocate $50,000 each year to charities they believe in. This endowment allows for many local organizations to receive support year after year.
What began as a response to loss has become a living legacy - one that strengthens communities, empowers the next generation, and reflects the values Kevin and Lynda have carried throughout their lives.
This Donor Advised Fund allows fundholders to annually recommend charitable grants each year.
