The Carey B. Kell Endowment Fund was the Community Foundation of Chippewa County's first endowment fund, because of Carey Kell's love for flowers. The fund was created in 2002 and provides grants to support beatification project in Chippewa Falls such as, but not limited to, the hanging floral baskets coordinated by the Chippewa Falls Main Street Association.

Chippewa Falls resident Tom Kell- former president of Kell Container Corporation and co-owner of River Bend Vineyard & Winery, along with his wife, Pam, and other partners- remembers his late mother, Carey Kell, as a fine lady who loved her gardens and liked to keep busy.

It's no wonder a fund created in her name was earmarked to support beautification of the Chippewa Falls area by originally helping to finance hundreds of hanging flower baskets and their upkeep through Chippewa Falls Main Street.

Although potted bushes have now replaced the hanging baskets downtown, his mother's wishes are still being fulfilled , and continues to make an impact today. Carey passed away at the age of 94.

The Community Foundation of Chippewa County was established to build permanent charitable resources that benefit the people, communities, and nonprofit organizations throughout the County. The Carey B. Kell Endowment Fund helps make more possible by supporting efforts that respond to the highest needs in Chippewa County within the fundholder's selected charitable focus area.
