Chippewa Moraine Ice Age Reserve Endowment Fund

The Chippewa Moraine Ice Age Reserve Endowment Fund began with a final wish, one that transformed a lifetime of appreciation for the land into a lasting gift for future generations.   When Allen Seilheimer made his final request, he set in motion a legacy that would continue to protect and celebrate the Chippewa Moraine for years to come.

"Allen grew up hunting and trapping in the area of the Chippewa Moraine Ice Age Unit," shared his wife, Sandra Seilheimer. "It was his idea to support the unit; he was more than enthusiastic that there was a local and physical site where he could explore his passion for nature.

"It was on behalf of his request that his family provided a lasting legacy in Allen Seilheimer's memory by starting the Chippewa Moraine Ice Age Reserve Endowment Fund.

Since Chippewa Moraine's opening in 1992, many visitors have expressed support for Seilheimer's educational efforts. Mr. Seilheimer was a long-term supporter of education. He also had a huge interest in the natural world and cultural history of the area.

The greatest benefit of this endowment will be to ensure permanent funding, providing a stable source of income that will allow for the future plans of natural resources programming. It will allow for the resources needed to maintain and increase educational experience for thousands of schoolchildren and visitors annually.  A few of these experiences include winter snowshoeing, participating in cultural and historical hands-on activities (e.g. using a two-man crosscut saw and tomahawk throw), discovering the glacial history of the area, and having a chance to hold and learn about reptiles.

With this endowment, Allen's hope was that the funding would allow some stability and permanence, especially in times of budget shortfalls.

Chippewa Moraine Ice Age Reserve Endowment Fund, is a Designated Fund that was established to support educational, historical, scientific, recreational and related visitor services programs at the Chippewa Moraine Ice Age Reserve; including the nature center, interpretive programming, exhibits, staffing, volunteers, special events, facilities development and maintenance, general operations and resource management.
