Giving to charity makes you feel good. Giving to charity strengthens personal values. Giving to charity introduces your children to the importance of generosity and instills a sense of morality and ethics. With this in mind, the Joas' had a strong determination to leave a positive legacy.
Both Susan and Gerald Joas have deep ties to the Chippewa Falls community, as did their parents. Both born, raised, and lifetime residents of Chippewa, Sue and Gerry appreciated and respected the cultural, social, and economic opportunities that were accessible to them throughout their lives. They wanted to see these same opportunities available for current and future generations through their educational Endowment Fund.
Susan attended Holy Ghost Grade School and was a graduate of Chippewa Falls High School. Gerry attended St. Charles Grade School and was a graduate of McDonell High School. After their service in WWII, Gerry in the United States Air Force, 2nd Lieutenant (AAF) and Air Craft Engineer Officer, and Susan as Staff Sargent in the US Marine Corps, they married on June 19, 1948, at Holy Ghost Church in Chippewa Falls. After their marriage, St. Charles became their permanent house of worship. Their marital union would last a strong 68 years.
They each had a deep love for this community they shared with family and friends and were known to enjoy a few rounds of golf together. Susan enjoyed the Lady Elks, her Bridge Club, painting, various art projects, and figure skating (in her youth). In addition, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels and at the Rutledge Home.
Gerry co-owned the Chippewa County Abstract and Title Company. This gave him first-hand knowledge of events and developments taking place in Chippewa County. His passions included the American Legion Post 77, Chippewa Falls Elks Lodge 1326, Kiwanis Club, The Knights of Columbus, and the Old Goats Coffee group. He also served on the Board of Directors at Spectrum Industries.
The entire Chippewa community thanks you (Susan and Gerald) for this generous educational Endowment Fund. The satisfaction you received from giving, your commitment to charity, and your determination to leave a positive legacy will benefit many for years to come.
Thank you, Mother and Father. We are so proud of you!
Connie, Jacque, Richard and Patrick (Children of Susan and Gerald)
