The Harold D. "Mac" McDonald Endowment Fund was established by Ann Lindsey-Gordon and Cathy Lindsey-Brown to preserve Harold's memory and share his life-loving spirit with others.
Mac never owned a home in Chippewa Falls, but Chippewa Falls was home to Mac in every sense of the word. He spent his career in the U.S. Army, serving in Pearl Harbor during WWII. He was also a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. Mac traveled all over the world during and after his years of military service and returned to Chippewa Falls so he could spend time with friends later in life. He died at age 87.
Grants from the Harold D. "Mac" McDonald fund have been designated for the Chippewa County Historical Society's annual "The Past Passed Here" event. This historical re-enactment educates youth and families about the area's roots in lumbering and the fur trade with reproductions of the camps that were located along the Chippewa River circa the late 1700s and early 1800s. Community members and history buffs bring the French fur traders, sawyers, blacksmiths and Native Americans to life with demonstrations, music and artifacts.
The remaining amount available to grant from the endowment fund after supporting the event is contributed to the Community Needs grant cycle to meet the most current needs of nonprofits and charitable organizations who apply for funding during that competitive grant cycle hosted by the Community Foundation of Chippewa County.

Harold D. "Mac" McDonald Endowment Fund, is a Designated Fund that was established to provide funding to the Chippewa County Historical Society for the "Past Passed Here" project, and to Community Foundation of Chippewa County, for grant-making at the discretion of the Foundation's Board of Directors.
