For David Robarge and his family, philanthropy has always been a part of their lives. When his parents established a fund at the Community Foundation of Chippewa County, they witnessed firsthand the power of giving back. Now, in the wake of unimaginable loss, David is ensuring that his late wife, Joan, is remembered in a way that reflects the kindness, faith, and generosity she embodied every day.
Joan Robarge was a woman of boundless love and compassion. "She was a nurse by profession; she was very caring and empathetic," David said. She had a special place in her heart for children and horses, finding joy in the innocence and connection they brought to her life. Her faith was a guiding force, and she was an active member of her church community. Beyond that, she inspired many as a spin instructor at the Chippewa Valley YMCA, where her energy and encouragement uplifted those around her.
Joan's passing left a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. In response, David and his family made the heartfelt decision to establish a donor-advised endowment fund in her memory. Their vision is clear: to ensure that Joan's legacy of compassion and service continues to touch lives for years to come.
Though a final decision hasn't been made, once the fund is ready to be granted, one of the family's ideas is to create a scholarship for seniors at Chippewa Falls High School who are part of the equestrian club-an initiative that reflects Joan's love for horses and her deep care for the youth. Through this scholarship, they will support students who share her passion and spirit, helping them pursue their dreams while carrying forward her legacy of kindness.
Joan and David always believed in supporting their community. When asked why he wanted to start a fund, David repeatedly stated, "Basically just having the ability to give back to the community that has supported us through our time here." As local business owners and active participants in area events since moving here in 1997, they understood the importance of just that: giving back. This fund is a testament to that belief, ensuring that even in her absence, Joan's warmth and generosity will continue to uplift others.
Through this memorial fund, Joan's love lives on. Her story is one of compassion, faith, and a commitment to making the world a better place. And now, thanks to David and his family, that story will continue to inspire and support those who need it most.
