Kara Dawn Honaker had such energy and a zest for life; particularly when it came to children and learning. An advocate of lifelong learning, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering at New Mexico State University in 1999. She was very proud of her degree, and she was the first in her family to graduate from college. She decided to sacrifice a career so she could be a stay-at-home mom to her five children: Kaylie, Natalie, Emily, Stella, and Carson Roy. Being a mom was something she cherished, and she enjoyed the kids as they grew up. Being a mom was so important to her; the kids were her greatest joy! Kara also loved giving back; this was evident when we opened our home to several pairs of exchange students throughout the years. We also opened our house to kids in need with a place to stay when there were struggles at home. She was also always willing to help a friend in need, and after she passed, many let the kids and I know how she touched their lives in so many positive ways. To honor how Kara lived, the Kara Dawn Honaker Endowment has been set up to support causes that were important to her, including education, youth and senior programming, and cultural arts. Each year, one of these causes will be selected for the Endowment fund to give financial support to. The hope is that the endowment fund will help Chippewa County continue to thrive and grow for many generations to come.
Grants will support Education and Arts & Culture with a focus on serving Youth and Seniors.
