The Robert "Rusty" Gilles Youth Agricultural Scholarship Fund, was established to support scholarships for Cadott school district students pursuing Agricultural Educational opportunities. Rusty was a lifelong resident of Sigel Township, Cadott, Wisconsin. He graduated from Cadott High School and being active in FFA. After high school he attended the Farm and Industry Short Course in CALS at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Continuing to stay involved with farm technology he belonged to Young Farmers, a group of area farmers mentored by Eugene King.
Rusty had a close connection to the land with the intent to preserve it while making ownership economically feasible. He enjoyed being a farmer, engaging in agriculture businesses and getting to know others in the industry. He started and operated Chuck Wagon Meats, Cabin Ridge Rides and Sigel Sunset Ranch. Over his lifetime he planted thousands of pine trees. He managed his woods by select cutting, selling Christmas trees and sawing lumber with his Wood miser sawmill. Horses were his great love both for pleasure and business. Rusty built Cabin Ridge Rides on the idea of using horse wagon rides to enhance the visitor experience. He also used his horses in harvesting timber.
Rusty took full advantage of agricultural associations for seminars and conventions. His belief was that a person learned at planned workshops but learned even more by talking to the other attendees and building a network.
He belonged to: Wisconsin Association of Meat Processors, American Meat Processors Association, Wisconsin Draft Horse Association, Percheron Association of America, Wisconsin Agricultural Tourism Association, Wisconsin Farmers Union, American Galloway Breeders Association, Wisconsin Chianina Association (board member), and the American Lowline Association.
Rusty greatly enjoyed attending the National Western Stock show in Denver for many years. He was thrilled when he finally showed cattle and his proudest moment was winning class champion.
The scholarship's intent is to assist young adults aged 17-20, who do not attend technical college or University to participate in agriculture related conferences, conventions, seminars and other agricultural education and training opportunities.
Rusty felt all youth needed to have these experiences and information to assist them in the future. He felt students at technical colleges and universities have opportunities that are not available to non-students therefore the scholarship is to be dedicated to these students.

Robert "Rusty" Gilles Youth Agricultural Scholarship, is a Designated Fund that was established to support scholarships for Cadott school district students pursuing Agricultural Educational opportunities.
